Greek Airspace Blackout: Communication Failure Investigated

A serious technical problem with the Civil Aviation Authority's communications led to an unprecedented 'blackout' in Greek airspace, causing flight delays and cancellations. The problem was located in the communication line between the control tower of 'Eleftherios Venizelos' airport and the antennas in Geraneia Mountains and Megara. Authorities are investigating the cause of the problem, with initial indications pointing to hardware failure and ruling out the possibility of a cyberattack. EYP and the National Cyber Security Authority have been informed and are collecting information. The central question is why the backup systems did not work.
