Holy Synod Imposes Indefinite Suspension on Former Bishop of Paphos

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus, following an emergency meeting, confirmed the decision of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate regarding the deposition of the former Bishop of Paphos, Tychikos. The Synod accused Tychikos of refusing to comply with the terms set by them, as well as making unacceptable moves such as appealing to civil courts, which contradicts the Holy Canons. Furthermore, he was accused of causing unrest among the faithful through statements and attempting to create divisions within the Synod. As a result, the Holy Synod decided to impose an indefinite suspension on Tychikos until he submits a specific Confession of Faith, withdraws his appeal to the courts, condemns his excommunication, accepts new duties at the Archbishopric, and ceases to cause disturbance. Meanwhile, supporters of Tychikos gathered outside the Archbishopric, expressing their solidarity and challenging the Synod's decision.
