Huge Cargo of Detonators and Ammunition Destined for Cyprus Seized in Italy – Carrier Used False Documents

A huge cargo of detonators and ammunition, worth over ten million, destined for Cyprus, was seized in Italy. The cargo, which had been declared as “various goods”, was found on a passenger ship heading to Greece. The Italian Guardia di Finanza discovered the material during a check at the port of Ancona. It was found that the truck driver had used false documents when issuing the travel document. The transport of explosives on a passenger ship violates safety regulations, as special permits and land routes are required. The seizure took place after a preliminary analysis of trade flows, which revealed anomalies in the Italy-Greece route. The detonators, due to their high sensitivity, could have caused catastrophic consequences on the ship. The carrier is accused of illegal possession and transport of explosives and of using false documents. The incident highlights the need for strict controls and compliance with safety regulations when transporting dangerous materials, as well as effective cooperation between authorities to combat smuggling and illegal arms trafficking.
