IDF Strike Targets Hezbollah Intelligence Chief in Beirut

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they carried out a “precise strike” against Hussein Makhlid, head of Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters, in Beirut. This move comes in response to Hezbollah's firing at Israel, in retaliation for the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Hezbollah leader Naeem Qassem is now a “target for elimination.” This statement marks a significant escalation in tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. Despite the escalation, an IDF spokesperson emphasized that Israel does not plan an immediate ground operation in Lebanon, but did not rule out this possibility, leaving “all options on the table.” The targeted attack on Makhlid and Katz's statements indicate a determined stance by Israel against Hezbollah, amid growing concerns about a wider regional conflict.
