Ierokipia Municipality Named Cyprus' Green City for 2026

The Municipality of Ierokipia has been awarded by the Cyprus Environmental Research and Education Centre (KYKPEE) as the 'Green City of Cyprus' for 2026. The distinction is based on two projects: 'Use of recycled water from the Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant' in the category 'Water Resource Management' and 'Maintenance and replenishment of green spaces with new trees and plants in the coastal area of Geroskipou during periods of drought' in the category 'Green Areas – Urban Biodiversity'. The award recognizes the Municipality of Ierokipia's efforts to promote sustainable development and protect the environment. The use of recycled water for irrigation and the preservation of green spaces in drought conditions are best practices that promote ecological balance. By joining the KYKPEE network of Green Cities and Communities, the Municipality of Ierokipia is committed to continuing the implementation of innovative environmental actions and collaborating with other cities and communities to address environmental challenges. This award highlights Ierokipia as an example for other municipalities in Cyprus, encouraging them to invest in sustainable practices and protect the natural environment of Cyprus.
