Inauguration Ceremony of the Cypriot Presidency with High-Ranking Officials

The inauguration ceremony of the Cypriot Presidency took place on Wednesday afternoon with the participation of high-ranking officials from the European Union and the Arab world. Present were the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council Antonio Costa, as well as the Presidents of Ukraine, Moldova, Iraq and Lebanon. The event marks Cyprus’s assumption of the Presidency for the next six months. The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, described the ceremony as a “moment of pride” for Cyprus and expressed confidence that the country would meet the challenges associated with the Presidency. The Cypriot Presidency will focus on promoting European priorities, strengthening EU cohesion and promoting European security and resilience. The ceremony included speeches and a multi-layered artistic performance entitled “MEMORY – PRESENT – META”, which presented the history and culture of Cyprus as an integral part of European culture. The performance combined music, dance, theatre, image, poetry and digital technologies. President Christodoulides is expected to hold joint meetings with the Presidents of Ukraine and the European Council, as well as bilateral meetings with other leaders, with the aim of coordinating work and promoting common interests. Following the ceremony, President Christodoulides hosted a formal dinner for the heads of the 14 official delegations.
