Indictment Served to Former Mayor in Alleged Rape Case

The indictment was served today to the suspended mayor, Faidon Faidonos, regarding the alleged rape case dating back to 2014. Mr. Faidonos faces four charges: rape, indecent assault, leading someone in a state of intoxication with the intent to commit a felony or misdemeanor, and assault causing actual bodily harm. The case has been registered and the first appearance of the accused before the Limassol District Court has been set for April 2nd, to proceed with the referral to the Criminal Court. The court will impose restrictive conditions on Mr. Faidonos to ensure his presence at the trial. Mr. Faidonos was summoned for an investigative deposition on February 18th, where he submitted a memorandum without answering the questions posed to him. His lawyer, Epaminondas Korakidis, declined to comment on the case after the deposition. The case has generated significant public interest and is being closely monitored by the media.
