Interior Minister: Government Committed to Sustainable Cyprus Solution

The Minister of Interior, Constantinos Ioannou, stated that the government is consistently and dedicatedly working towards a sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue, based on European and international law. The goal is the liberation of Cyprus, peace, the protection of the rights of all residents, and the return of refugees to their ancestral homes. This solution should free the island from occupying troops and obsolete guarantees, strengthening Cyprus's role as a pillar of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East region. The Minister of Interior made these remarks at an event of the Athletic, Musical and Philological Association "Digenis Akritas Morfou" celebrating the Epiphany. He emphasized that the Cyprus issue remains an open wound for the country, but the light of Epiphany reminds us of the continued effort and hope for return. Furthermore, Mr. Ioannou stressed the commitment of the Ministry of Interior to supporting the refugee community through the implementation of policies to improve housing and living conditions. The upgrading of procedures aims to ensure justice, equality, transparency, and meritocracy. Finally, the Minister of Interior mentioned that the Ministry is working to preserve the memory, identity, and continuity of the occupied territories, such as Morphou, which are an integral part of the history, culture, and values of the Cypriot people. Passing on this legacy to future generations is the duty of all.
