Interior Ministry Requests Information on Direct Democracy Candidates Following Allegations

The Ministry of Interior has requested information regarding allegations made by the President of DIKO concerning offenses allegedly committed by candidates for parliament from the Direct Democracy party. The review will take place in the event of an objection being submitted after the official submission of candidacies on May 6th, with the assistance of the Legal Service. The allegations concern drug trafficking in the occupied territories, extortion through false pretenses, and investor fraud. The candidate President of Direct Democracy, Antis Varosiotis, responded to the accusations, citing previous incidents involving DIKO officials and emphasizing that offenses have no place on his party's ballot. However, he acknowledged a lack of organizational structure for vetting the candidates.
