International Relations Expert Explains Why Trump's Actions in Venezuela are Unprecedented, Illegal and Highly Dangerous

International relations expert, Charalambos Chrysostomou, described the recent US military intervention in Venezuela and the arrest of Nicolas Maduro as a clearly illegal act, violating international law and the UN Charter. The intervention, according to Mr. Chrysostomou, is primarily aimed at controlling Venezuela's vast oil reserves. He expressed concern about the dangerous precedent created, as Donald Trump appears to be seeking to assume the role of a global hegemon, bypassing even internal US rules, such as informing Congress. The EU, according to him, has tacitly legitimized the action, while the Trump-Putin relationship resembles Yalta. This action, beyond its illegality, poses a threat to small countries like Cyprus.
