Investigation Underway into Greek Airspace Communications Blackout

An investigation is underway alongside efforts to fully restore flights in Greece, to determine the causes of the 'blackout' in communications with pilots. The problem began early Sunday morning with a critical failure in the Civil Aviation Authority's communications, leading to the closure of the Athens FIR. The failure involved the loss of communication line between the Control Tower at 'Eleftherios Venizelos' and the antennas in Geraneia Mountains and Megara, disrupting wireless communication with pilots. Authorities are considering the possibility of hardware failure rather than external intervention or cyberattack, while EYP and the National Cyber Security Authority are gathering information.
