Iran State TV Broadcasts Interrogations and 'Confessions' of Protesters

Iran's state television is broadcasting interrogations and 'confessions' of detained protesters, a tactic raising concerns among human rights advocates. The head of the judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, is personally conducting the interrogations, with portraits of Ali Khamenei and Ruhollah Khomeini in the background. The protesters, often in tears, 'confess' to crimes without any evidence being presented. This practice began a few days after the start of the protests on December 28th and has been criticized as a violation of the presumption of innocence. According to Iran Human Rights, at least 3,428 people have been killed and approximately 10,000 arrested. Ejei has promised 'swift' public trials, while he has previously been accused of harshness and human rights abuses. In one of the videos, a woman 'confesses' to sending a message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
