Japan to Hold Snap Elections on February 8th

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaiti announced snap parliamentary elections for February 8th, following the dissolution of the lower house of parliament. The move is an attempt to secure a stronger mandate to implement her political agenda and strengthen her position within the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. The elections will be Takaiti's first electoral test since taking office in October. The decision comes at a time of rising cost of living, which is a major concern for Japanese citizens.
