Justice Minister Announces New Prison Construction and Reforms

Justice Minister Kostas Fytiris visited the Central Prisons for the fourth time in less than a month, as part of efforts to improve the correctional system. During the visit, he announced a series of measures, including the announcement of 90 new prison guard positions, the upgrading of the Prison Guard School, the announcement of a position for the Director of Prisons, and the commencement of procedures for the construction of a new, modern correctional facility. In addition, an automated evaluation system for correctional staff will be established, prison overcrowding will continue to be addressed, and nursing and psychosocial support for inmates and staff will be strengthened. The Minister emphasized the importance of reintegrating convicts into society and the need to support correctional staff.
