Katsuta Secures Historic Safari Rally Victory for Toyota

Takamoto Katsuta achieved his first World Rally Championship victory at the Safari Rally in Kenya, driving the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1. This win marks the first time a Japanese driver has won the race since Yoshio Fujimoto in 1995 and the second overall after Kenjiro Shinozuka. Toyota maintains its undefeated streak at the Safari Rally, reaching six consecutive victories since 2021 and 14 overall in the race's history. Despite initial difficulties with two tire punctures on Friday, Katsuta recovered with a strategy of consistent driving, capitalizing on his rivals' problems in the challenging conditions of Saturday. He climbed to the top before the midday service and increased his lead, ultimately winning by 27.4 seconds. This victory is the culmination of a long development journey for Katsuta, who joined the Toyota driver program in 2015. The success confirms the effectiveness of the program and its ability to develop talent. The Safari Rally is known for its extreme conditions and represents a significant test for drivers and machines. Katsuta's victory and Toyota's dominance confirm the reliability and performance of their vehicles in this demanding race. The championship continues with the Rally Croatia in April.
