Kyriaki Kosta: A Journey in Water, Memory, and the Traces of Place

Kyriaki Kosta, a visual artist, talks about her relationship with water, inspired by the recent rains that have revitalized the Cypriot countryside. For Kosta, water is not merely a natural resource, but an element connected to memory, daily life, and the architecture of the landscape. In her work, water appears as memory, material trace, cultural and political question. Kosta examines how it can be protected, mapped, and reactivated within public space, through her works presented in the Fluid Persistence exhibition at NiMAC. The artist refers to her childhood memories from her grandmother's villages, where access to water was a daily challenge and a source of conflict. These memories have deeply influenced her aesthetics and her approach to creation. Kosta also refers to her work on Phoenix, an abandoned village built on a dam, and how the connection of the village to the myth of the Phoenix inspired her work.
