Live: Alert at Paphos Airport Ends - Greece Sends Two Frigates and a Pair of F-16s, Dendias to Visit Cyprus (video)

The alert at Paphos Airport has ended after two unmanned aerial vehicles heading towards the British Bases in Akrotiri were dealt with in time, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis announced on Monday afternoon. The mobilization began after an explosion on the runway, apparently caused by the crash of a military drone. Residents of Akrotiri had left their homes and some had spent the night at the Limassol KEN, following instructions from the President of the Republic. Greece responded immediately to Cyprus's request and is sending two frigates and a pair of F-16s to strengthen security. The Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias, is expected to visit Cyprus to discuss the situation and offer Greece's support. The situation is being closely monitored by the authorities and all necessary measures are being taken to protect citizens and infrastructure.
