Major European Naval Powers Unite to Protect Cyprus

The Netherlands has decided to deploy the air defense frigate 'HNLMS Evertsen' to the Eastern Mediterranean to support the French aircraft carrier 'Charles de Gaulle' strike group in protecting Cyprus from Iranian drone attacks. The decision was made at the request of France and considered by the Dutch Lower House. The 'HNLMS Evertsen' is the most modern frigate in the Dutch navy, equipped with advanced air defense systems and capable of defending an entire fleet. The frigate has 48 vertical launch cells for missiles and is armed with Harpoon missiles, as well as guns for various missions. This deployment is part of a broader effort by European countries, including Greece, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom, to strengthen security in the region. Dutch officials emphasized that the frigate carries around 200 personnel and is fully equipped to deal with potential threats. The 'HNLMS Evertsen' is already sailing with the 'Charles de Gaulle', which had previously been deployed in the Baltic Sea. This move highlights the importance of naval cooperation between European powers to protect common interests and address growing geopolitical challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean.
