Marina Project in Potima, Paphos: Bids Due in January

The process for the construction of a marina in Potima, Paphos, is well underway, with bids expected to be submitted by January 23rd. The president of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, George Mayes, stated that the evaluation of bids will take place in March, followed by the selection of bidders and the commencement of negotiations in May. The award of the contract is anticipated in late 2026/early 2027, with construction work scheduled to begin in April 2027. The tender provides two alternatives: a marina with a capacity of one thousand boats, with port facilities occupying 70-80% and land facilities 20-30%, combined with residential and commercial development, including a hotel complex, and a similar marina with additional space for cruise ships. The lease of the land will be for a period of 55 years and will cover an area of 166,000 square meters. Mr. Mayes emphasized that the new marina will be modern and of high standards, contributing to the development of the region and strengthening the economy. However, concerns were raised by Paphos stakeholders due to the failure of a previous tender in 2006. The initial tender was cancelled in 2006 as the company awarded the project failed to present the necessary financial guarantees. The selection of the Potima area was made due to Paphos's suitable geographical location for the development of nautical tourism.
