Massive Drug Seizure in Panama: Over 5 Tons of Narcotics Confiscated After Sea Chase

Panamanian police have seized over 5 tons of narcotics, believed to be cocaine, after a sea chase. The vessel carrying the drugs ran aground on a beach after ignoring police warnings and attempting to flee. The drug traffickers managed to escape, abandoning 5,356 packages of narcotics. The seizure took place at Playa Bongo, on Isla del Rey, in the Pearl Archipelago. Panama is a major transit point for drugs from Colombia to the United States. Drug seizures have been increasing in recent years.
