Merz: "The US is Pursuing a Policy of Power Instead of International Law"

Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticized US policy, describing it as a "pure policy of power" and emphasized the need for Europe to become more autonomous and not rely on the United States. He pointed out that the US is moving away from an international order based on rules and is focusing on promoting its own interests. Merz noted that criticism of US President Donald Trump is pointless if he believes his policy is correct. He warned that Europe should not submit to the US, but pursue its own interests and develop a strong economic base. The Chancellor stressed that Germany must be able to argue from a position of strength and have allies in Europe who share the same values. To achieve this, greater economic competitiveness and the promotion of German interests are required. In addition, Merz referred to the need to increase working hours and years, as well as to maintain Germany's industrial base. He also expressed concern about the high rates of sick leave and proposed measures to encourage workers to stay at work, such as abolishing telephone sick certificates.
