Mia Milia Pipeline: Treated Water from Occupied Territories to Supply Kaimakli Industrial Area

The construction of the new pipeline from the Mia Milia Sewage Treatment Plant in the occupied territories is expected to be completed in 9-10 months, supplying the Kaimakli Industrial Area with approximately 20,000 cubic meters of treated water daily. The project, funded by the European Union, is an initiative of the Nicosia District Administration Council, in collaboration with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture, the United Nations, and the EU. The idea of the pipeline emerged during discussions with the United Nations regarding the replacement of the old pipeline that channeled sewage to Mia Milia, which was built in 1972 and began to experience serious problems a year and a half to two years ago. The construction of the new pipeline will be carried out in parallel with the repair of the old one. The pipeline will contribute to strengthening the utilization of water resources and ensuring water supply security in the free areas. The Water Development Department will undertake the preparation of the necessary infrastructure for the utilization of treated water. This project represents a significant development in the management of Cyprus's water resources, as it allows the utilization of water that would otherwise end up as sewage, offering a sustainable solution to meet the needs of industry and potentially other sectors.
