New Social Partner Discussions on Adequate Minimum Wages - Disagreements Remain

Social partners in Cyprus are continuing their discussions regarding the bill on adequate minimum wages, however disagreements remain. The employers' side expresses reservations about the inclusion of references to 60% and 50% of the gross median and average wage, respectively, while trade unions argue that these references are necessary to comply with the European Directive. In addition, employers consider the data collection and electronic registration process to be complex. Despite the disagreements, there is a trend to include criteria such as economic growth and productivity in the bill, which were absent from the initial proposal. The goal is to submit the bill to Parliament by the end of February/early March, with the prediction that collective agreements will cover 80% of employees.
