The commander of Denmark's Joint Arctic Command (JAC), Rear Admiral Søren Andersen, assured that no Chinese or Russian ships have been observed near Greenland, despite claims made by Donald Trump. Trump had expressed interest in purchasing Greenland, arguing it is strategically important for US security and did not rule out the use of force to acquire it. Andersen stated that while Chinese and Russian vessels are present in the Arctic Ocean, they are not located near Greenland. He added that he has invited the US to participate in military exercises planned for the island, but is unsure if they will accept the invitation. The JAC is responsible for Greenland's national sovereignty, conducting inspections of fishing vessels and search and rescue operations. It has a staff of around 150 people and utilizes patrol boats, aircraft, helicopters, and satellites for surveillance. In response to Trump's criticism, Denmark has approved a defense package worth 6.5 billion euros. German Foreign Minister Johann Vandefuhl expressed confidence that the US will not occupy Greenland by force, while a bipartisan committee from the US Congress is in Copenhagen to express its support for Denmark and Greenland, assuring that Trump's views do not reflect US public opinion.
