No Final Redesign for Akamas Road Network, Says Commissioner

The Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, Antonia Theodosiou, points out the lack of a final redesign for the road network in Akamas. Despite the suspension of construction work in December 2023 due to environmental concerns, no comprehensive study has been conducted that takes into account the area's character and topography. Theodosiou emphasizes that existing interventions do not align with Akamas' unique features and do not promote biodiversity. Furthermore, she states that the road network primarily serves the management of the National Forest Park and not public access, while decisions on the second phase of the projects are pending. She also points out the existence of an asphalt road constructed by the Akamas Municipality that reaches close to the National Forest Park.
