North Korea Fires Ballistic Missiles, First Launch This Year

North Korea fired at least two ballistic missiles towards the East Sea today, marking its first weapons test of the year. The launch came the day after the US military captured the president of Venezuela, an action Pyongyang has accused the US of seeking for years. South Korea and Japan confirmed the launch, with the Japanese defense minister calling the move 'absolutely unacceptable'. Analysts believe the test is a response to the growing pressure North Korea feels due to the situation in Venezuela and a warning to the US that a potential attack against it would be more difficult than in Venezuela. The missiles traveled approximately 900 kilometers before falling into the sea, without posing an immediate threat to the US or its allies.
