Larjani's Death Could Be a Greater Loss for Iran Than Khamenei's

The elimination of Ali Larjani by an Israeli strike is considered a loss of greater significance for Iran than the death of Ali Khamenei. Larjani was a unique politician who could bridge multiple levels of power in Iran, from the Revolutionary Guards to the political leadership and from the internal system to key international actors such as China and Russia. Unlike Khamenei, Larjani functioned as a hub of consensus and balance, enjoying the confidence of the military establishment while maintaining channels with more moderate forces. This dual role made him irreplaceable in a period of intense internal and external pressure. His loss is even more significant considering the role he could have played in a transition scenario, as he was perhaps the only politician who could have acted as a 'bridge' in potential negotiations or a controlled political change. His elimination essentially removes this option. The absence of Larjani highlights a deeper problem: the lack of alternative leadership figures in Iran, dramatically limiting the possibilities for flexible crisis management and increasing the risk of the dominance of the most hardline elements.
