Onassis Ready: A Dream Factory and Hub of Ideas for New Media Artists in Athens

The Onassis Foundation has inaugurated "Onassis Ready" in Agios Ioannis Rentis, a new artistic creation space housed in a former plastics factory. The 3,760 square meter space aims to become a hub for artists working in new media, offering a field of experimentation, risk-taking, and freedom. Onassis Ready features a fully equipped technology lab with green screens, editing rooms, image processing computers, and artificial intelligence applications, responding to the increasing use of technological tools by artists. The Foundation's goal is to promote digital art not as technofetishism, but as a means of expression that requires understanding and respect. The artistic director of the Onassis Foundation, Afroditi Panagiotakou, described Onassis Ready as a "Dream Factory and Hub of Ideas," where fellows of the Onassis AiR/ONX Fellowships program will have the opportunity to develop their ideas. Alexandra Niaka, one of the first fellows, emphasized the importance of the equipment provided by Onassis Ready, as access to such technologies is difficult for artists in Greece. The Onassis Foundation seeks to create an environment of collaboration and synergy between artists of different specialties, promoting creativity and innovation in the field of new media.
