Organizations Unite for Collective Advocacy on Health, Disability, and Aging

OSAK, KYSOA, and the Observatory of the Third Age have announced the formation of a Social Alliance for the Citizen, aiming for the collective advocacy of issues related to health, disability, and aging. Representatives of the three organizations emphasized the interconnectedness of these issues and the need for a coordinated effort to promote social cohesion. The alliance seeks to strengthen pressure on relevant authorities and give greater weight to public dialogue, so that the needs of citizens are translated into specific policies and decisions. OSAK highlighted the difficulties faced by patients in accessing health services, as well as the problems faced by people with chronic illnesses and disabilities. KYSOA stressed the need for inclusive policies that address poverty and promote decent living and social participation for people with disabilities. The fragmentation of existing policies and the lack of a unified plan were criticized. The Observatory of the Third Age emphasized the increasing aging population in Cyprus and the need to support the elderly, so that they do not feel alone and have access to health services and a dignified life. The alliance is committed to promoting the rights of citizens and working for a fairer and more inclusive society.
