Over 700,000 Traffic Violations Recorded, Collection Rate Low - AI Cameras Considered

The traffic camera system has issued over 700,000 citations in the last four years, with 2025 recording 270,000 citations. However, only about half have been paid, leaving a large number of fines outstanding. Police are considering installing software to check for unpaid fines at crossing points to the occupied territories, as Turkish Cypriot offenders are not paying their fines. At the same time, the procurement and installation of cameras with artificial intelligence are being considered for more effective monitoring and recording of violations.
