Paphos Mayor Faces Rape and Indecent Assault Charges

The Legal Service of Cyprus has instructed the criminal prosecution of the suspended Mayor of Paphos, Phaedon Phaedonos, regarding a rape case allegedly committed in 2014. The case concerns charges of rape and indecent assault. The investigative work has been completed, and the Legal Service has determined that there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the case in court. The case file is returning to the Police for the preparation of the indictment, with a possible initial hearing in the Paphos District Court followed by referral to the Criminal Court. The case was initially submitted to the Legal Service in February and returned to the Police for further investigation. The evaluation of the material was based on complaints from a businessman and the alleged victim. It is emphasized that Phaedonos' guilt or innocence will be determined by the court, based on the presumption of innocence.
