Parties React to First Lady's Resignation from the Fund

Philippa Karsera, wife of the President of the Republic, announced her resignation from the Management Committee of the Independent Social Support Fund (ISF), citing the need to protect her own and her family's ethics and integrity, following a “relentless attack” and the spread of false news on social media. Political parties commented on the decision, with AKEL pointing to the delay in the resignation and criticizing the retention of the President's Chief of Staff in his position, as well as the refusal to disclose the donors of the Fund. The Citizens' Movement emphasized the need for institutional changes in the way the Fund operates, regardless of personal motives, and recalled the Supreme Court's rejection of the Parliament's attempt to strengthen the transparency and control of the Fund.
