Phytiris on Stadium Violence: 'This Year Has Gone a Bit Smoother'

The Minister of Justice, Kostas Phytiris, commented on the recent incidents of violence outside GSP stadium, stating that this year has gone a bit smoother than previous ones. He stressed that the Police acted correctly and that the Ministry is ready to provide the Police with the necessary resources to deal with violence. Responding to questions about criticism regarding the handling of stadium violence, the Minister emphasized that the Police have the means to deal with the situation and that the Government is committed to combating violence. He explained that the task force for organized crime will be under his supervision, but operational command will be with the Chief of Police. Regarding the Law on Stadium Violence, the Minister stated that they are trying to promote it in the current Parliament and that they expect to reach a final text within the month. The Minister stressed the importance of cooperation between the Police, the Judiciary and society to address stadium violence.
