POED Vice President: New School Bill Passed Without Consultation

The POED Vice President, Apostolos Skouropatis, stated that the new bill regarding childcare before and after school hours was approved by Parliament without any consultation with the organization. He emphasized that schools should not be turned into daycare centers, as keeping children there from morning to evening is excessive. Mr. Skouropatis stressed that the issue is not the teachers' schedule, but the amount of time children are left unsupervised. He expressed the view that the regulation serves the interests of large businesses and believes there is a constitutional issue, as Parliament cannot interfere with the state budget. He called for limits to be set and for the Ministry of Education and the Presidency to react.
