Police Mistakenly Inform Parents Their Son Died in Crash, While He Was Fighting for His Life

South Yorkshire Police have admitted to a serious error: informing the parents of 17-year-old Trevor Winn that their son had died in a car crash, while in reality, Trevor was the injured teenager in critical condition. The victim of the crash was 18-year-old Joshua Johnson, along with his 17-year-old girlfriend. Police had initially believed Trevor was Johnson. The mistake was discovered after further investigation, and the police have referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and are offering support to the families. An 18-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
