Police Unions in Cyprus Protest New Work Schedule

Police unions in Cyprus are strongly reacting to the recent circular issued by the Chief of Police regarding work schedules, which they consider a violation of their acquired rights. POAS (Police Association of Cyprus) and ISOTITA are calling for dialogue with police leadership and expect a discussion of the issue in the Parliamentary Legal Committee in January. ISOTITA has already announced a protest rally outside the Parliament, while POAS is awaiting a meeting of the Mixed Police Personnel Committee (MPPC) to determine the next steps. The President of POAS, Angelos Nikolaou, emphasized that the circular could have been avoided if there had been dialogue and that the union is proceeding with moderate tones while still demanding the rights of police officers. POAS received an invitation from ISOTITA to participate in the mobilization, but will wait for the outcome of the MPPC meeting first.
