Political Storm Over Video Alleging Cyprus Presidential Shadow Scheme

A video circulating on the X platform has ignited a political storm in Cyprus. The video, whose authenticity is yet to be verified, appears to capture conversations between former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, the Director of the President's Office Charalambos Charalambous, and businessman Giorgos Chrysokhos with individuals offering to invest in Cyprus. The conversations suggest discussions about illegal funding and circumvention of sanctions. The video also references the operation of the Independent Social Support Agency, managed by First Lady Philippa Karsera – Christodoulidou. The government initially dismissed the video as malicious and a product of editing, but later announced it was investigating a case of hybrid activity against the Republic of Cyprus. Giorgos Lakkotrypis stated that the statements attributed to him in the video had been edited to distort the context of the discussions and harm the country, the President, and himself personally. The case has sparked strong reactions from political parties, who are calling on authorities to investigate the allegations. The Attorney General and the Chief of Police have already been informed about the case. The government states it will fully cooperate with the authorities to clarify the facts and ensure transparency and accountability.
