President Announces €890,000 for Fire-Affected Communities and €60 Million Support Plan

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, announced the allocation of €890,000, raised from businesses and citizens, to the fire-affected communities in the province of Limassol for projects chosen by the communities themselves. During a meeting with local authorities in Pakhna, a comprehensive support plan of approximately €60 million was presented, including funding for emergency needs of community councils (€400,000), strengthening the operational capacity of communities (€850,000), covering the basic needs of 300 families (€2.3 million), compensation for property restoration (approximately €30 million from 940 applications), and compensation to farmers and livestock breeders (€3.3 million to 1,435 people). The President expressed his sorrow for the loss of two lives in the fires and thanked local authorities, the state mechanism, volunteers, and businesses for their solidarity. He emphasized the government's responsibility for the immediate relief of those affected and described the support plan as a comprehensive set of interventions covering a wide range of needs, including support for families, restoration of homes and property, reactivation of the primary sector, support for businesses and workers, and environmental restoration. Furthermore, it was announced that fire trucks will be allocated to 17 communities through an open tender by the Limassol District Administration. The government has already disbursed significant amounts to address the consequences of the fire and is committed to the complete restoration of the area. The support plan aims to provide immediate assistance, restore damages, and enhance the resilience of the fire-affected communities, while also ensuring the environmental restoration of the region.
