President: Annoyance over British Defense Minister's Attitude

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, expressed his annoyance over the attitude of the British Defense Minister regarding the British bases in Cyprus. He emphasized that attacks so far have exclusively targeted British bases and originate primarily from Lebanon. Mr. Christodoulides is in constant communication with the President of Lebanon and other European leaders, including Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who immediately responded to the request to strengthen Cyprus's defense capabilities by sending F-16s and frigates. Cyprus has upgraded its own defense systems and is in consultation with other EU member states for further strengthening. The President stated that, if possible, he would submit an application for Cyprus to join NATO, but this is not currently possible due to Turkey's stance.
