President Christodoulides: Cyprus is a Pillar of Stability

President Nikos Christodoulides stated at an event honoring the fighters of the 1963-’64 Turkish insurgency that the Republic of Cyprus is part of the solution, not the problem, criticizing those who question the country's actions. He highlighted Cyprus's active role as a pillar of security and stability in the region, particularly during its presidency of the Council of the European Union. The President referred to the historical confirmation of Turkey's divisive plans, with the Turkish insurgency preceding the invasion and occupation of 37% of Cypriot territory. He expressed absolute commitment to the struggle for liberation and reunification of the homeland, emphasizing the need to restore territorial integrity. Simultaneously, he mentioned strengthening the economy, modernizing the state, and addressing migration. Internationally, Cyprus is presented as a hub of stability, a transit station, and a beacon of peace and cooperation. Finally, the President spoke about the effort to record and recognize the approximately 12,000 volunteer fighters of the Turkish insurgency.
