The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, emphasized that Cyprus is part of the solution and not the problem, especially as the country assumes the presidency of the Council of the European Union. He spoke at an event honoring the fighters of the Turkish revolt of 1963-’64, where he underlined the importance of maintaining the national integrity and security of Cyprus. President Christodoulides stated that Cyprus, despite the challenges, is walking the path of responsibility and playing an active role as a pillar of security and stability in the region. He expressed his disappointment with Turkey's divisive intentions, which led to the invasion and occupation of 37% of Cyprus's territory. He pledged to continue the struggle for the liberation and reunification of the homeland, as well as to restore the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus. At the same time, he stressed the need to strengthen the economy, the state, and the deterrent power of the country. President Christodoulides also referred to Cyprus's role as a hub of stability, a transit station, and a beacon of peace and cooperation in the wider region. He praised the sacrifice of the fighters of the Turkish revolt and pledged to recognize their contribution.
