President: Cyprus Plays Role as "Pillar of Security and Stability" in the Region

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, emphasized that Cyprus plays a role as a "pillar of security and stability" in the region, while also assuring that the country is not involved in military operations. The President reiterated that all actions of Cyprus are aimed at the safety of the country and its citizens, in a period of increased tension. Cyprus is taking an active role as a hub of stability, offering the possibility of using the island as a transit station for the safe evacuation of foreign nationals from the region. President Christodoulides referred to the support of Greece, which was the first country to offer assistance to Cyprus after communication with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The dispatch of Greek fighter jets and frigates is considered a significant gesture of solidarity. The President also stressed that Cyprus continues to experience the consequences of the Turkish invasion and occupation, while reiterating the importance of the approach of "assertive realism" for the liberation and reunification of the country. Finally, he referred to the Unified Cultural Doctrine of Cyprus–Greece, emphasizing the importance of cultural cooperation between the two countries.
