President of Cyprus to Present Priorities in Strasbourg

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, will travel to Strasbourg today to present the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union to the Plenary Session of the European Parliament. The presentation will focus on an “Autonomous Union. Open to the World,” emphasizing the strengthening of Europe’s strategic autonomy, resilience and competitiveness. The President will highlight Cyprus’s European responsibility as the southeasternmost outpost of the Union and as the only European capital under occupation, stressing the importance of international law and respect for sovereignty. The role of Cyprus as a bridge between the EU and the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East will also be highlighted. Following the presentation, there will be questions from members of the European Parliament and a joint press conference with the President of the European Parliament.
