President of Cyprus Visits Former President in Hospital

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, visited former President George Vassiliou at the General Hospital of Nicosia, where he has been hospitalized since January 6, 2026, with a respiratory infection. During the approximately half-hour visit, he was briefed by the attending physicians on his health condition. Furthermore, the Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalambides, also visited Mr. Vassiliou at the hospital to be updated on his progress. In both cases, the emphasis was placed on the serious condition of the former President and the provision of necessary medical care. The Spokesperson of the Cyprus Public Health Organization (OKYpY), Pampos Charilaou, confirmed that Mr. Vassiliou is receiving appropriate medical attention, but his health condition remains serious. He did not make detailed statements regarding respiratory support or the former President's communication with his environment, respecting the family's wishes. According to the medical bulletin, Mr. Vassiliou is receiving all necessary medication and supportive care.
