President to Present Cypriot Presidency Priorities in Strasbourg

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, will travel to Strasbourg to present the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union to the Plenary Session of the European Parliament. The presentation will focus on the central message “An Autonomous Union. Open to the World” and will highlight the need for a Europe that strengthens its strategic autonomy, resilience, and competitiveness. The President's intervention will be based on the European responsibility undertaken by Cyprus, as the southeasternmost outpost of the EU and as the only European capital under occupation. Commitment to international law, respect for sovereignty, and the defense of European values will be emphasized, with reference to the EU's support for Ukraine. Particular emphasis will be given to Cyprus's role as a bridge between the EU and the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, promoting the need for a more active European presence in the region. The importance of strengthening European competitiveness through innovation, research, energy security, and digital transition will also be highlighted. Following the presentation, the President will take questions from members of the European Parliament and will hold a joint press conference with the President of the European Parliament. In addition, a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Parliament is scheduled.
