Presidential Commissioner: UN Secretary-General Contact Encouraging for Talks Restart
Presidential Commissioner Marios Hartsiotis stated that the recent contact between the President of the Republic and the United Nations Secretary-General is encouraging for the resumption of talks on the Cyprus issue. Mr. Hartsiotis mentioned that the UN's commitment encourages the intensification of efforts for a substantial restart of negotiations, with the aim of achieving a comprehensive solution. He emphasized that the Republic of Cyprus remains committed to reaching a solution based on UN resolutions and in full agreement with the European acquis. He also referred to the importance of the historical relationship between Greece and Cyprus, emphasizing that April 1st, the anniversary of the EOKA struggle, symbolizes the common identity and destiny of the two peoples. He stressed the importance of preserving historical memory and educating new generations.
