Qatar: War Could Push Oil to $150 a Barrel

Qatar's Minister of Energy, Saad al-Kaabi, warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could disrupt energy exports from the Persian Gulf, potentially driving oil prices up to $150 a barrel. Al-Kaabi estimated that energy companies in the region would declare force majeure if the conflict continues, halting exports. Even after a potential end to the conflict, returning production to normal rates would take weeks or months. Qatar has already halted liquefied natural gas (LNG) production due to attacks on Iran. Given Qatar's significant role as an LNG supplier, covering 20% of global supply, a disruption would have substantial implications for energy security in Europe and Asia. While offshore facilities have not been damaged, the assessment of impacts on onshore infrastructure is ongoing.
