Racism Still Threatens EU's Core Values: Papaelegna at Brussels Conference

Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Klea Papaelegna, represented the Cypriot Presidency at the European Conference against Racism 2026 in Brussels. The conference, co-organized with the European Commission, brought together representatives from institutional bodies, member states, international organizations, and civil society organizations. Ms. Papaelegna emphasized that racism remains a significant challenge to the fundamental values of the EU, such as human dignity and equality, despite the strong legal framework. She welcomed the adoption of the EU Anti-Racism Strategy 2026–2030, which is part of the EU's broader action for a Union of Equality. The conference provided an opportunity to assess progress and exchange best practices for the effective implementation of the new strategy.
