Rain, Storms and Strong Winds Forecasted Until New Year's Day in Cyprus

Published December 30, 2025, 06:34

A significant deterioration in the weather is expected in Cyprus tonight and tomorrow, with rain, storms, and strong winds. According to meteorologist Panagiotis Lingis, today will start with mild weather and increased clouds, with a possibility of localized showers during the afternoon. However, from the night hours and especially after midnight, the phenomena will intensify and spread to a large part of Cyprus, with a possibility of hail, mainly small in size. The phenomena will continue on New Year's Day, but with reduced intensity and extent. The deterioration of the weather is due to the arrival of a low-pressure system in the region. Winds will blow from the southwest, reaching intensities of 5 to 6 Beaufort locally, while the sea will be rough. More specifically, today the weather will be initially clear and gradually cloudy, with localized showers mainly in the west and mountainous areas. The temperature will rise to 15 degrees Celsius inland, 17 on the coast, and 6 in the mountains. Tonight, rain and thunderstorms will be more frequent, with a possibility of hail and sleet/snow on the peaks of Troodos. Local showers and storms are forecast for Wednesday, while isolated showers are expected on Thursday. Friday is expected to be mainly clear. The temperature will remain stable until Thursday, close to the average climatic values, and will drop on Friday. Citizens are advised to be prepared for the adverse weather conditions.
