“Red Flags” at Tax Department: Delays in Tax Collection on Property Sale

Published February 10, 2026, 09:44

The Audit Office of Cyprus has identified “red flags” at the Tax Department regarding the sale of a property, following an anonymous complaint. These indications include a sudden and unjustified decrease in the sale price, potential artificial inflation of construction costs, unusual transactions between related parties, deviations from International Accounting Standards, and delays in tax collection. The Audit Office points out that the Tax Department did not conduct adequate and timely audits, putting public revenue at risk. It is proposed to strengthen tax audits and early identification of high-risk cases.
